As a new political entity, this party has a platform based on gumption. Like all political parties this platform and name is associated with a symbol, an animal -- Percheron!
Let me explain my thinking and rationale. We have heard a lot lately about common sense and that brings to mind, to me anyway, several things I have heard over the years. Commonsense reminds me of horse sense. When I think of horse sense several images come to mind I think of sleek race horses and little Shetland ponies. I think of the magnificent Clydesdales which makes some people think of beer, parades or sporting events. I immediately thought of a similarly sized horse of magnificent stature and bearing -- a draft horse that originated in France in a region called Perhe -- thus the name Percheron. So, I have a platform based on common sense or horse sense. I have party image that symbolizes and stands for hard work and is based upon the gumption to do what is right, so I coined a new word for our new political party -- GUMPTIANS!
GUMPTIANS -- the platform... the act or capability of having enterprise and initiative based on common sense or horse sense and founded upon the divinely inspired Constitution. We may not mix theology and government but we definitely will listen to holy promptings and inspiration.
In the words of a 19th century philosopher, who many claim was a Prophet of God, " We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous and in doing good to all men... we have endured many things and we hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, of good report, or praiseworthy, we seek after these things."
Those words were written in March of 1842 by Joseph Smith to the editor of a Chicago newspaper, one, John Wentworth.
As a platform it may not be all inclusive but it's the beginning.
